Design Statement

Facebook is a social networking website that has more than 64 million users worldwide. With numbers this high, Facebook sees this as a window of opportunity to make a large profit by dealing with large corporations. Our video is to spread the message about what Facebook does with these corporations. As part of a deal with Facebook, these corporations are able to access our information and actively follow our online activities on partner sites.

Our main concept is to show the scary stalking that these large corporations engage in by placing the video out of context. We did this by having live footage of a young man and by doing this, we create a familiar sense of stalking that non-Facebook users can understand and relate to. By taking live footage and digitizing it, we give anonymity to the young man to illustrate that this stalking can happen to anyone. As such, the viewer becomes a part of the video, they are the ones being targeted by Facebook. We also used text in such a format that it to would portray this scary stalking feeling as it comes at you from all angles and flows in a ghostly way. We also used the text to our advantage in that it could take the form of swarming ads by being very in your face and jumbled together at a fast pace at times. This along with the audio comes together nicely to effectively convey our key goal. The audio is reminiscent of that of a computer-like voice and is enhanced by mysterious melody to give off that sense of insecurity due to these stalking ads through various corporations.
